Steak Fries (Produced between 03/2008-11/2008, Pencil on Paper)

I started this series in March 2008 when I became increasingly interested in Turkish food culture and the forms it has taken over the past years. It is about the ironies that appear as a result of the exchanges that have been occurring after the entrance of the American food chains to the Turkish market since the start of October 1986 (Opening of first Mc Donald’s restaurant). This specific intermingling of these two food streams has recently flourished into an even more hyped “chic” café culture. The changing food packaging, standardization & presentation & types of hygienic materials that are available in restaurants and cafés are also examined in the series.
